Our 3 Favorite: Dog Leashes
I think we are officially past the point of our dogs’ trying to figure out what we are still doing at home everyday. The humans, on the other hand, are and are wondering how we are going to survive a day at the office without them whenever we go back to work. Wherever we are in the thought process, we have been getting a lot of extra time with our four legged family members and with that, a lot more walks - win, win! We know it can be a little overwhelming with all of the possible leashes for your dog, but here are some of our tried and true dog leashes for every occasion.
This is our go-to leash right now! These leashes are made with climbing robe and have a small or large carabiner to attach to your dog’s collar depending on their size. Hamilton is just over 20 pounds and he has the 5’ small carabiner Adventurer Climbing Rope Leash. They offer a lifetime guarantee and donate dog food for every leash sold. We are really working on leash training Hamilton and need to have him close to us, so the 5’ length has been really effective in managing his pulling when we go on walks. He is so curious about everything and desperate to say hello to every dog or human he encounters that this leash is best for neighborhood walks. Hammy would like to offer you his special discount code HAMMY20 for yours!
Our Favorite Retractable Leash
One of the first leashes I ordered for Hamilton after we brought him home from the shelter was the TUG Tangle Free Retractable One Handed Dog Leash. This leash has a super sturdy grip and gives your dog some room to explore on their own while still allowing you to stay in control. This is the leash I use when we go on hikes that have a more narrow path, so he stays close, but can also have that freedom. One note - we brought this to the beach and it got super wet and sandy. This meant too much sand got into the retractable feature and caused it to get jammed up.
Our Favorite Extra Long Leash For Serious Exploring & Recall Training
This leash has been soo helpful for training Hamilton recall commands and other obedience skills. Our friends got a puppy Labrador retriever and used this leash during her training sessions and gifted it to us when they came and stayed with us over the holidays. We are lucky enough to live by the coast, so we take him to the beach as often as we can. A lot of California beaches require dogs to stay on the leash and while his “come” skills are improving, he is also so fast and the most curious little thing, so I am still not 100% confident letting him off the leash. This leash allows him to run, explore, and figure out the waves without me having to worry about him not coming back or getting swept up by a strong wave. When we say this leash is extra long, we mean it! It will get tangled, so make sure you are not using it around too many people to avoid tripping anyone.
