How To Spoil Your Mom From a Distance This Mother’s Day

Last Mother’s Day, I was in Sante Fe, New Mexico with my mom and mother-in-law exploring the town and enjoying some quality time with these two ladies. This year, we are getting creative with how to make the mothers in our lives feel loved even from a distance! I wrote about what to get new parents in quarantine, but all parents in quarantine are experiencing life a little differently these days, so let’s make sure they feel celebrated no matter where they are. This post references a lot of places in the San Francisco Bay Area, but can easily be adapted for wherever your mom lives!

Send Her a Quarantine Cake! Or Better Yet, a Cake & Face Mask!

Nothing says celebrating in 2020 quite like the combination of cake and face mask! Before we did our first quarantine grocery run, we ordered our Butter& quarantine cake that had “wash your hands” scripted on it. This bakery in the Dogpatch has not only saved themselves from loosing their business, but has inspired bakeries all over the world to get creative with their quarantine offerings. Butter& is taking it one step further and creating the most adorable cakes for Mother’s Day with sayings such as “mask up mama” or “tough as a mother” on their mini (2-4 servings) cakes. Not only can you get a delicious cake with flavors such as Strawberry Matcha or Pistachio Rose, but you can add a custom denim face mask to your order. These cakes are available for pickup in San Francisco or delivery.

Brighten Up Her Home With Blooms and Greenery

I would encourage you to work with a local florist on your Mother’s Day floral needs this year! The floral industry has taken a huge hit with all events this spring being cancelled, so many San Francisco Bay Area florists are preparing for special Mother’s Day deliveries to keep their businesses alive.  Flora & Spice, Orange Blossoms Floral Design and Menlo Botanica are a few of the Bay Area florists taking orders. We also love Farmgirl Flowers that is based in San Francisco and ships nationally.

If flowers aren’t her thing, The Sill has some incredible plant and orchid options that can be delivered. They will last a lot longer than cut flowers and give her something to take care of. She can even name the plant because, why not.

Enjoy Brunch With Her (Virtually!)

While you may not be able to serve her breakfast in bed this year, you can still host brunch for her even it if it is virtually! Order her food to her door or let her know where she can pick up the food you arranged, setup a time for a Zoom or FaceTime and maybe throw on a dress and collared shirt, so you can enjoy brunch with her. Bonus points for already having flowers at her house or a Spotify playlist you are both listening to in the background!

If you are in the Bay Area, Cafe Borrone just started their takeaway menu featuring their quiches, salads and Frosted Mochas, Lord Stanley is doing a brunch kit for pickup or delivery for groups of 1-10, Mademoiselle Colette is doing a breakfast kit, fresh pastries to go and for delivery as well as a bake at home option.

Organize A Nice Dinner With Her At Home

Many Michelein star restaurants in the Bay Area are putting together incredible dining options to-go so you can still spoil her at home.  She can enjoy a world class meal in her own home and no one has to be the designated driver! Lord Stanley, Sons and Daughters and Wayfare Tavern are just a few San Francisco restaurants bringing their Michelin five star into your dining room. Atelier Crenn is offering a Crenn Kit to go with easy reheat instructions.

We have done dinner and produce box from NOPA in San Francisco, Butcher Box from Sundance Steakhouse in Palo Alto as well as a 3 course meal from Flea Street Cafe in Menlo Park and were super impressed with the quality and presentation of the to go options. Need more ideas? Here is a running list of restaurants in San Mateo County offering food for pickup or delivery

Another great option is purchasing a gift card for a future dinner date! We purchased one for Liholiho Yacht Club and cannot wait to get back there in person one day.

Farm Fresh Produce to Her Door Step

Many local farmers are definitely being impacted by COVID19 and not able to sell a lot of their produce.  What better way to bring the freshest produce to their door and save them a trip to the grocery store than a CSA box of farm delivery of fresh produce? We have loved using Sigona’s, NOPA Produce Box and Blue House Farm for our fresh produce. Here is a list of delivery options in the Bay Area

Box of Love from Hawaii

Love From Hawaii is a brand new company that has evolved in response to COVID-19, which has halted tourism to Hawaii leaving a significant impact on the local economy. This company came up with the beautiful idea of curated boxes of local offerings from farmers and makers on The Big Island to bring some aloha to your home until you can travel there again!
